Princess Party

I had the distinct pleasure in capturing images at a Princess Party. It was great seeing the girls all dressed up in their pretty dresses. Some were getting their nails done while others were making their own jewelry. Their eyes lit up, when I came in with my camera and equipment. Here are a few images taken during the portrait session of the party.

I had asked each child his or her name and their age. This little fellow had just turned three. This image melts my heart remembering him trying to show me his three fingers.

High Contrast Black and White

During some down time, I usually work on camera and lighting techniques. Lately, I've been woking on putting together some really funky high contrast black and whites. I've played with this idea for some time now, but never felt comfortable with using this style in my marketing. I think I've finally gotten the hang of it. The trick is, make it simple. Let me know what you think. I may add these to my print collection.

Say Cheese

What do you get when you sit a little girl at the table with a bowl of cheese popcorn?

Kennedy

I had a great session with Kennedy and her mother Andrea. During our shoot, I had Kennedy pose with a guitar her dad had given her. It was a little too heavy for her to hold, but we found a way to make it work. We had so much fun that day. I’d like to thank Miss Kennedy for being such a great model.

My Journey

July 2008 marked my journey not only into photography, but into a new life. I moved from a place of being totally secured in my profession to a place that was once considered an over exaggerated hobby. I moved from a place where my name was once synonymous with, “Oh, you’re that guy”, to a place where I would now hear, “Eric who”.
I don’t know where this journey will lead me or if and when it will end, but I am certain about my faith and understanding of who is guiding me. Truly, reading and believing the word of God has been my ultimate strength. I’ve experienced many days of feeling weak and conquered. Asking myself, “How dare you move on from a place of comfort and change careers during the nation’s most difficult recession”? I’m here to tell you my friend, by His word.
I have been blessed in so many ways. One such blessing came through the form of a photography workshop I attended last July. This is where I met a dear friend and now mentor; Ross Oscar Knight. This young man has been a true inspiration for me and many other photographers throughout the industry. His willingness to give of his knowledge and time has been unsurpassed. His passion for photography shows through his work. His love for God flows out through his words and actions.
I’ve already shared with him about how he has inspired me to be a better person, a better photographer and a better man of God. I want to share with you a slideshow of the July 2008 Ross Oscar Knight (ROK) workshop and the great group of people I met while attending. I hope you enjoy.

Summertime

Summertime is the time of season when friends and family gather together at a BBQ / family cookout (depends on where you're from). You're not thinking about the stresses of the weeks gone by or the heavy burden of the weeks to come. Your only concerns are where can you grab a nice cold one/soda and who made the potato salad. I'm sure everyone has heard a funny story about some poorly made potato salad. If you haven't, either you don't frequent BBQ's or you're the one making the bad potato salad. I'm not going to get into that one. Let's save that for another story.

Awe, the sun is shining, good music is playing and Brother Lester is throwing down on his grill. What more can I ask for? It's summertime. Here's a little preview of Lester and Sandra Glasses weekend cookout. (Click play and turn up your volume)

Happy Being Me

I’ve been listening to Michael Jackson songs for the past few weeks. Each song put me back to a different time in my life. My most memorable moment go as far back as watching the Jackson 5 on TV when I was just a little boy. At that time, it wasn’t often I would see children close to my age, close to my culture on the Ed Sullivan Show. Michael was always in the forefront. I thought it would be cool to be like him. I wanted to dance like him, sing like him and dress like him. Just recently, I was going through some old photographs that made me sit back and laugh out loud…lol. Though we sometime wish we could be like someone else, we don’t know the full extent of their lives. I know what it is to have plenty and I know what it is to have few. All in all it’s been cool. There's nothing else I'd rather do. I’m so happy being me.

I’d like to share a picture of me during my young Michael Jackson moment.
